Soap opera star Sulk-cheon Hong. |
"Please pay attention to people in the minority."
The undergraduate student council hosted a lecture by soap opera star Sulk-cheon Hong at the Creative Learning Center on November 17th. Mr. Hong is famous for publicly admitting his homosexuality in 2000.
An audience of about 50 engaged in free and spirited dialog with Mr. Hong. His frank and open style engaged their interest and encouraged participation.
He explained the social atmosphere toward homosexuals when he came out. "Back then, even other homosexuals criticized me. But I wanted to live happily as a homosexual, so I decided to come out"
In the middle of lecture, Mr. Hong emphasized the importance of safe sex by asking, "Is there anyone who never use a condom?"
The audience asked similarly frank questions, such as, "How was the conflict with your family when you came out?" and "Do homosexuals have both male and female roles?"
After the lecture, Mr. Hong signed all autograph requests from the audience one by one.
He also left a message to the students who couldn't attend: There are important things you never learn at school. Please pay attention to them.
