Is MBC Cursed?
A recent change of logo and corporate identity is but one suggestion floating through the corridors as MBC tries to understand what brought on the biggest crisis of its history. The current crisis was ostensibly brought on by widespread revulsion at the reporting methods of MBCs PD Diary in digging the dirt on cloning pioneer Hwang Woo-suk -- but not everyone is so sure.

Indeed, many blame MBCs recent re-branding for the crisis after a fortuneteller noted that the red square right at the center of the logo bodes ill. Some staffers argue the red square is associated with a red card in football, for instance - and since the new logo was adopted, the broadcaster got the red card three times in a row.

Others say MBC had a run of misfortune since it broadcast a drama series which features a shaman mother played by Kim Hye-sun and her daughter (Lee Da-hae), who inherited her visionary gift, between late last year and early this year. Staffers say the MBC studio was frequented by many shamanists who helped out during the shooting of scenes like shamanistic rituals: evil, they say, may have rubbed off in the process.

The broadcaster tried to settle all disputes by terminating the investigative program. But public anger is reaching the point where some Internet users are now threatening suicide unless MBCs management resigns. A boycott of the flagship News Desk is almost a minor problem compared to that. Could there really be a curse on MBC?
