The
International Conference for the Integration of Science and Technology
into Society 2005 (ICISTS-KAIST 2005) will be held on July 20-23, 2005
at Daejeon and Seoul KAIST campus. Based on lectures and discussion
sessions led by prominent guest speakers, participants will have
opportunities to share ideas and experience all the different
perspectives on the workshop topic.
The conference program will be run simultaneously by the three
workshops:
I.
Online Culture: From Anything to Everything
II.
Paradigm Shift in Biotechnology: DNA, Human Cloning and Beyond
III.
The Next-Generation Lifestyle: Ubiquitous Computing
The
mission of the conference is to gather experts from the science and
technology fields related to each of the workshop as well as all other
related fields, i.e., business, government policy, law, ethics, and so
on. The conference program has been devised for a broad range of
discussion. The conference is not geared toward science and
technology students — students majoring in fields that are not
closely related to science and technology are more than welcome to
participate.
The
conference will open with a formal opening ceremony on July 20, 2005 at
Daejeon KAIST campus, and officialy end on July 23, 2005, in Seoul
during a formal closing ceremony & gala dinner.
The content of the sessions will depend on the topic of each workshop session. However, the general conference format is debate.
For most of the workshop sessions there will be two speakers who will
debate about the specific issue and arrive at a tentative conclusion.
Participants will have the opportunity to participate in the debate
through Q&A for each session.
There will be one panel
discussion session on each of the four days of the conference. The
topics for the panel discussion sessions are drawn from each of the
three workshops plus one special session, which will be on science
policy and education for ICISTS-KAIST 2005.
Applicants are NOT required to submit a thesis paper.
Nonetheless, participants are encouraged to prepare a thesis paper on
their respective topic, and of these, superior theses will be selected
and published in print and on the Internet. Participants will have
opportunities to present their theses in special sessions on
Call for Papers.
A conference fee of 50
USD will charged for each delegate,
to be collected during registration on July 19, 2005, in Daejeon. Lunch
and snacks during the conference will be provided as well as
transportation. Breakfast and dinner will not be provided. Also,
airfare will not be provided.
No accommodation will be provided. However, to assist delegates financially, we have engaged in business partnerships with many hotels that have agreed to significantly reduce their fee for ICISTS-KAIST 2005 delegates.
Once you apply and gain admission for the conference, we will provide
you will the detailed information. Then, you may choose which hotel to
stay (depending on the price you are willing to pay).
